Photos, videos, documents, etc. are all considered data that we don’t think twice about until it’s lost. Unfortunately, people tend to be very lax when it comes to protecting their important data. Even tech savvy people tend to ignore backing up their data until it’s too late.
Don’t be lazy, back up your important data!
So the question really is, how often should your data be backed up?
The general rule of thumb should be every month unless the data is of high importance. Certain data that would fall under this category are as follows:
- Important legal documents for your personal life or business.
- Photos and video that aren’t backed up on disks, thumb drives or the cloud.
- Receipts for important home repairs that might need to be retrieved later on in life. (Ex. Car maintenance receipts are great to have when you’re in the market to sell).
I can go on and on with my list but it usually comes down to individual preference. Certain people value their data differently, however everyone is somewhat bummed out if their harddisk goes crashing.
What is the best way to backup?
Read up on internal and external hard drives and purchase one that works best for you. Afterwards, use either window’s restore point or Mac’s time machine to make backups of your computer as often as possible.
