Nobody wants to lose their data, especially those of us who have a lot of photos. Photos are like snapshots that we save to look back at some of the great times we’ve had. There are people with thousands of pictures just sitting on their computer without any type of backup protocol in place.
How easy is it to lose all that data?
Fairly easy if you have an older computer that’s running a Hard Disc Drive (HDD) for storage. Hard Disc Drives are old technology that is still around due to how cheap it is to manufacture. HDDs usually have large storage capacity, which only makes people store more photos, documents, and videos.
Why is it easy to lose data on an HDD?
Unlike SSDs, which use flash storage technology, HDDs use older technology. By older technology, I mean they are very mechanical in nature. Imagine an HDD being a disk that just spins round and round as you are accessing the data. Overtime, this disk will eventually stop spinning as it cannot be maintained properly. All HDDs will eventually fail, so manufacturers try to provide 3-4 years of warranty to keep consumers happy.
With that said, Solid State Drives (SSD), also fail but they do not fail as quickly as Hard Disc Drives (HDD). HDDs simply wear out as time goes by and the disk is frequently accessed.
How can I protect my data?
One of the best ways to protect your data is to use a cloud storage service. As long as you have an internet connection, your data can be backed up from anywhere in the world. We dive deep into the cloud storage world in a different article that you find by clicking here.
