Some buyers don’t have faith in their goal as the jump from a 3 TB hard drive to 20 TB took 7 years. However, people are generally positive towards the direction Seagate is heading. They are matching their competitors, some who already offer 20 TB Hard Drives.

Seagate’s 20 TB offering will be thanks to a technology called heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) technology.

Some hard drive enthusiasts point out that there already exists 100 TB Solid State Drives (SSD). Meanwhile old school Hard Disc Drives (HDDs) are lagging behind in terms of storage capacity.

One saving grace is that HDDs tend to be cheaper than their SSD counterparts. HDDs are also very popular for cold storage and backing up data for offsite storage.
